A little tale of our newest project at VELD architect!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the office

Not a creature was drafting, not even a mouse;

The drawings were hung on the drafting board with care,

In hopes that Chief Building Official would soon be there;

The architects were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of projects danced in their heads;

Pens and papers put away,

and computers shut down for the holiday.

The last email sent, the final drawing printed, (deadline met)

I just settled down for a much need rest.

When the front door swung open with a loud sort of clatter,

I jumped and stared to see what was the matter

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But in walked St. Nick, and eight tiny reindeer,

He sat down in the Mies chair with a sigh,

Mrs. Clause says”The north pole house is not getting by.”

She complains it’s too drafty, and creaks under foot

Its tarnished and dirty with ashes and soot;

There is no room to entertain the elves;

and Mrs. Claus needs more shelves.

He asked, “Could you help us with a design?”

My eyes how they twinkled! This job would be so fine

This house must be different, it couldn’t be the norm,

I must think about traffic, function and form!

Their new dwelling would be red, white and green

The proportions would be perfect and lines so clean.

The appliances will all shine like crystals.

sleek black steel next to fieldstone, and modern right angles.

Solid hardwood floors, and triple glazed windows galore.

reclaimed timbers to remember the architecture that came before.

Energy efficient with extra insulation for those cold winter nights,

like a fur coat, when the north wind bites.

A broad front door with a little round window;

A toy shop with high ceilings, and lights all aglow.

A room with a view to the decorated Christmas trees.

To live there will make life such a breeze.

I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work,

And drew up the sketch; then turned with a jerk,

The sketch was drawn up with a such care

It was a building the elves could prepare.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon let me know I had nothing to dread;

He gave me a package with the luster of mid-day snow

I looked down with delight at new Lamy drafting pen below!

And tucking the napkin into his breast pocket;

He stood up and turned, and  behind him the door shut

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

“Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

Best of the season and 2019,
