The Owner of this farm wanted to provide an opportunity for his grown children to create a business with their talents in hospitality, brewmaster, farmer, and business on the farm property. The location was ideal, one block outside of the suburbs for easy access. VELD architect provided insight to the challenges, opportunities, and possibilities for the farm and farming through our project scouting process, including a soil analysis and tips and tricks around permaculture. VELD  helped the client determine the best site for the building weighing the pros and cons of various options. We developed a master plan to include many of the ideas and then a phased plan to implement slowly as the business developed and evolved.

The first phase is being implemented this fall with an orchard planting and apple barn pavilion. The pavilion in true resourceful farmer spirit is an reused steel post office building! It is designed such that will serve for experimenting with different functions, special events, and testing the business model prior to closing it in and investing and commiting more than necessary in this early stage.
